What Is Ficka?

Ficka is a slim PU leather case for nicotine pouches and snus. The name is Swedish for pocket, and it started with a small frustration: the tin.

Where the pouch comes from

The pouch, first snus and now nicotine, was perfected in Sweden. Swedes have been tucking a portion under the lip since the early 1800s; the country's oldest snus brand dates to 1822 and is still made to its original recipe. That is more than two hundred years of daily practice.

How seriously does Sweden take it? When the EU banned snus in 1992, Sweden negotiated to keep it as a condition of membership, and in 1995 became the only member state granted a permanent exemption.

And yet the thing you carry it in never caught up: a plastic tin, a lid that announces itself across a room, a ring worn into the front of your jeans. Ficka is the carry the category forgot to design, Swedish in name and Swedish in restraint.

Fika and Ficka

They sound alike. They look alike. They are not the same.

Fika is the Swedish pause: coffee, taken seriously, every day. Ficka is the pocket you keep things in. One is the ritual; the other is where the ritual lives. Ficka with your fika.

Elevated, and quiet about it

Everything about Ficka is subtraction. Muted color, honest texture, one metal, nothing extra. Details you notice by hand before you notice by eye: the grain of the leather, the antique-gold spring frame, the wordmark pressed into the surface.

Not louder. Better.

Håll det lagom: just the right amount.
